Molly was found by my brother in a random warehouse in Texas where he was working. I guess someone didn't have room for a dog, so she's been here for the past eight-to-nine years.
A common day for her is to wake up....follow me upstairs...sleep some more...wake up..stare at me till I take her out...play on the trail...sleep on the floor...be asked to eat...resist and sleep some more...finally eat...stare at me till I take her out again...play outside...go back to bed...follow me downstairs when I go to bed...sleep some more...
That's her pattern. She doesn't deviate much from it. A real creature of habit (as we all are)!
A few days ago she did in-fact stray from her pattern. No energy. Sitting and staring at the wall. No appetite..and the capper..not wanting to play ball (and she LOVES to play ball)!
I give her a day (as most vets recommend) and see what happens.
Same thing. Stiff as stone and really favoring her ribs.
So, we finally get her to the vet (after five minutes of convincing her to enter the front door). Just like that, she starts eating soup, wagging her tail, catching dog treats in her mouth like she was pretending to get out of going to school! She was diagnosed with a sore side and given no medication. Crisis averted! Maybe the sight of the local veterinary hospital scared her straight, but it's good to have her back.
More on her (and everyone else) soon!

Dog toy? So what!

Co-existance
Normally...the cat goes after the rat and the dog goes after the cat.
The cats kept to themselves and the dogs had a room downstairs.
Here are a few pics I was able to find. The black one is Lucy and the patterned one is Ricky. Again, it's been a while and the memories are quite friendly (I might edit some of these posts later when I learn a little more), but I remember they were good pals (and hopefully still are)! 2a and 2b are them together and 2c is them with me when I was about eight or so. I don't know how much convincing it took to get them both to sit with me like that!
A little while back whenever a new cat (there were enough dogs) would enter the house they'd sleep in the bathroom and one of us would bring a dog (Doja or Molly) to familiarize themselves with the new kittens! Sure, there was a lot of hissing, some barking, but after a few days/weeks they'd learn to accept each other
3a/3b are Homer/Molly taken real recently
The problem with that strategy is some cats don't naturally blend together and no one took the initiative to 'help them along'. They seem to get along better than they used to, but it could have been better (I'll try and find some pics of them together)!
(I'll fix the cut-off images soon. It's late!)

Lets Go Oakland!!
For you that don't know, that's the usual chant for Oakland A's games and the season starts today in 19 hours (weather permitting)!
In our family...we have a tradition of torturing our dogs and making them wear A's stuff! I'm sure we have more pictures around here, but there's about 7 different photo albums, not to mention random pictures in dressers, drawers, etc...
Since I still don't know how to appropriately place pictures where I want on this site..just follow the simple directions!
Samantha is picture 1a She's a german shorthaired pointer and every time she saw a bird...she pointed!

Like that, notice the right paw! She was a real sweet dog and made the most amazing catches! She had remarkable energy and used it!
Black Bill (1b) was a dog that was best friends with everyone. Except Samantha when he stole the ball when she dropped it and ruined the game! He's a black lab and people said he had the best eyes of any dog that's lived here (I don't like referring to them as 'our pets').
Well, when there's opening day there's predictions and we'll let Molly select who will win the AL West this year. Wherever her right paw is means that team will finish in 1st Place!

Wow! How does she do it? That's impressive stuff!
Btw, pay no attention to the fact that the Angels and Mariners aren't there. They only had that promotion going for so long at Baskin Robbins where they gave you sundaes in baseball helmets and I was about 10 at the time. This was a fair prediction, totally on the level and not conjured in any way!

Monkey See, Monkey Do.
Earlier in life, the dogs would all seem to be downstairs and the cats would all be outside roaming around, so, it was rather hard to see what new skills/habits each had learned. Sure, they learned some things. How to sit (sometimes), how to catch a ball, chase string, come inside if we shook the pounce can enough times (cat treats), etc...but none seemed to learn much from each other.
Granted, I was younger, but as time went on... the cats tended to stay inside and the dogs got more spoiled!
Take these pics of Homer/Mikey. I've seen cats sit like this prior, but Homer didn't do this (at least that I saw) until hanging out with his buddy Mikey a lot.
When Doja was still with us, Molly would follow him everywhere! Doja was best known for his yawn/curly tail and while Mollys tail isn't quite as snake-like as Dojas...she very quickly picked up the yawn! She still does it to this day, not quite to the standards of her brother, but everyone can't be the same and it's the effort that counts!
Has anyone else noticed these types of things with their pets?!
